Role Purpose:
Responsible for delivery and implementation of the Cushman & Wakefield (CW) EMEA Health, Safety, Security, Environment and Quality (HSSEQ) Strategy for the Eastern Continental Europe countries (Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Czechia and Sweden) under the stewardship of the Head of HSSEQ EMEA. The role will support the delivery of measurable improvements in health, safety, security, environmental and Quality performance and engagement across the C&W organisation, in support of business objectives.
This is a senior corporate role which will directly report to the Head of HSSEQ EMEA and indirectly report to members of the EMEA Management Leadership Team. The role will require an experienced professional who has held a similar role in a related industry and who is comfortable and confident in working and presenting at a senior level.
The individual will be commercially aware and responsible for delivering the EMEA HSSEQ Strategy as this relates to applicable Eastern Continental European countries and reporting successes to their stakeholder group across the region.
Core Responsibilities:
This HSSEQ management role will be responsible for identifying areas of potential organisational risk and developing robust health and safety mitigation controls, policies, procedures and guidance in accordance with the C&W EMEA HSSEQ strategy and local legislation. The role will be responsible for co-ordinating both internal and external resources across the region in order to manage legal compliance and enhance organisational safety culture. In doing so the role will work closely with the Head of Quality and Management Systems and the Head of HSSEQ EMEA in order to ensure consistency of approach.
The role will work across all departments and therefore senior stakeholder engagement will be critical to the candidate’s success and the candidate must have demonstrable experience in developing successful senior stakeholder relationships and influencing change and process / culture improvement. The candidate must be a self-starter and able to demonstrate the delivery of effective HSSEQ management and communication through both face to face engagement and the use of remote working tools e.g. Microsoft Teams.
This management position will be responsible for successful day to day line management and resourcing of key projects e.g. ISO audits etc.
Critical relationships will include those with our higher risk business units including:
- Asset Services department which has a technical management and property management focus and manages approximately 1500 properties across the EMEA region ranging from offices and shopping centres to industrial parks and vacant land.
- Global Occupier Services department which manages office floor space for Blue Chip clients across the EMEA region.
- Project and Development Services department which manages construction projects and refurbishment / fit out works for clients across EMEA.
- Business unit representatives across Eastern Continental Europe
- Representatives across Eastern Continental Europe
As a minimum the candidate will therefore require a proven track record in health and safety management, environmental management and preferably construction health and safety in order to be successful.
The successful candidate will support the Head of HSSEQ EMEA to champion the ongoing improvement of C&W’s safety and environmental management systems relating both to our service delivery to clients and in relation to the health and safety of Cushman & Wakefield employees. The candidate will need to have proven experience in developing and implementing initiatives to improve HSSEQ compliance and awareness and will be responsible for;
- Developing, implementing and delivering appropriate objectives, targets and improvement programmes for the cluster countries in association with the Head of HSSEQ EMEA.
- Monitoring and reporting on HSSEQ performance and progress against HSSE objectives to local leadership teams. Routinely presenting at corporate meetings and steering groups to increase HSSE awareness and engagement.
- Managing and developing appropriate HSSEQ training programmes, methods of delivery and evaluation of effectiveness to ensure employees are competent with regard to their health and safety duties.
- Developing appropriate arrangements to ensure that risks from contractors and third party suppliers are vetted, managed and effectively controlled. Procuring, managing and monitoring the activities of external consultants operating on behalf of the EMEA HSSEQ Team.
- Working closely with business development teams to support operational growth in line with business objectives. Presenting to clients as required in order to demonstrate Cushman & Wakefield’s credibility in the area of HSSEQ
- Providing support and technical advice to senior operational managers to enable them to undertake their roles and responsibilities for health, safety and the environment within their particular areas of the business.
- Monitoring changes in legislation and best practice to ensure continuing legal compliance and best practice throughout the applicable cluster region.
- Liaising with external enforcement bodies and insurers as well as clients in order to satisfy key stakeholder requirements.
- Act as a country crisis manager, handling major incidents, conducting incidents investigations, and advising on improvements.
- Acting as trusted advisor to senior leadership on critical, complex and contentious issues as they arise across the cluster region.
- Supporting the Head of HSSEQ EMEA and the Head of Quality & Management Systems to develop and implement ISO certified management systems across the region. Supporting the countries in implementing and maintaining these systems effectively.
Qualifications / Knowledge & Experience:
- Educated to degree level in Occupational Health and Safety or an equivalent discipline, the successful candidate will have demonstrable experience of developing, implementing and refining models of health, safety and environmental management in accordance with the requirements of international standards.
- Detailed knowledge and practical application of safety in the fields of construction, technical management and property management.
- Senior membership of recognised HSSEQ trade associations / bodies.
- Experience of working in a multi-site environment in the facilities, retail, property or service delivery sector preferable.
- Detailed knowledge and a proven track record in construction health and safety law.
- Experience in internal auditing, preferably with ISO internal auditor qualifications.
- The successful candidate will likely currently report to Board level stakeholders and will have a proven track record of working independently to influence senior stakeholders.
- The successful candidate will currently hold a position of responsibility within an organisation where brand / reputation management is seen as critical and where they are accountable for the safety of large numbers of internal / external stakeholders.
- An experienced trainer capable of delivering in-house training courses on HSSEQ topics.

- Professional and proactive in approach and style, an excellent relationship builder, able to coach and influence change, by working in partnership and collaboration across the business.
- Able to operate at a senior level with senior executive stakeholders.
- Commercially aware and able to act calmly and with authority in a crisis. Able to deal with major incidents and advise members of the company executive on appropriate action to be taken in any HSSEQ related incident.
- An excellent communicator in English, as well as possessing local language skills. Proficiency in a third language will be considered a plus.
- Ability to effectively respond to complex enquiries, solve complex problems and provide innovative solutions, whilst considering the bigger picture and commercial factors, anticipating potential issues and future needs of the business.
- Likes to work as part of a team but equally comfortable working alone, enjoys working with diverse and dynamic stakeholders and business units.
- Excellent presentational skills and confident at delivering complex and difficult messages to a variety of different stakeholders of varying seniority.
- Sensitive to the varying cultures and ways of operating between countries. Able to tailor solutions to suit national requirements and legislative frameworks.
- Exceptional time management skills and an ability to work and deliver under pressure.
