Our mission is to promote and protect abroad the values, interests and economic well-being of Ireland and its people. We do this under the political direction of our Ministers, through our staff at home and through our Embassy network abroad. The Embassy is seeking to recruit a resourceful, proactive and flexible individual with previous experience in a similar environment to fill the position of Driver/Messenger.
The precise range of duties will vary over time according to the requirements of the Embassy. Significant out-of-hours work will be expected but within the local employment law provisions. This role will include, but may not be limited to the following activities:
· Driving the Ambassador to and from official engagements, driving other Embassy staff, picking up official visitors as required (late evening/weekend driving duties will arise);
· Maintaining the official vehicle (bringing for regular services, washing and cleaning etc.);
· Assisting in the renewal of Embassy’s car insurance, vehicle registration and any other administration related to the vehicle;
· Keeping track of mileage, fuel, and toll expenses;
· Assisting with Embassy events and the transporting, moving and loading of equipment as required;
· Daily collection/delivery of post; managing the dispatch of diplomatic letters;
· Assisting with maintenance issues at the Chancery and Residence as required;
· Providing logistical support and collection/delivery of official correspondence and messenger;
· Liaising with the Head of Mission, Head of Mission’s PA and diplomatic staff on Embassy schedule;
· Assisting with other administrative duties at the Chancery or Residence as required;
· Other duties as may be required.
· Fluency in Czech and a good level of English;
· A clean and current driving licence without any penalty points which is maintained at all times;
· Minimum of 1 year professional driving experience;
· Safe and courteous driving style;
· Ability to exercise good judgement and decision-making;
· Excellent knowledge of vehicle maintenance and safety;
· Willingness to work out of hours and additional hours when required;
· Excellent punctuality and time management;
· Ability to communicate professionally, effectively and efficiently;
· A flexible attitude, good judgement and the ability to work effectively as part of a team;
· Experience in adherence to security operations and procedures;
· Good administrative skills, including in Microsoft Office;
· Familiarity with using GPS/online maps and with driving in Prague;
· A high level of discretion, commitment and reliability;
· The successful candidate must have a legal entitlement to live and work in the Czech Republic prior to recruitment.
· The successful candidates will be hired on a fixed-term contractual basis and will be based at the Embassy of Ireland in the Czech Republic.
· Medical/Health checks will apply.
· Regular working hours are Monday – Friday, 9am – 6pm, with out of hours driving duties also arising.
· The salary for the position is gross CZK 532,067.26 per annum, paid locally on a monthly basis. There is an incremental payscale in place. Salaries will be paid directly into your bank account. All employees are therefore required to have a bank account in the Czech Republic.
· Annual Leave entitlement is 20 days per annum, exclusive of public holidays.

Competency based interviews (including language and driving skills testing) for selected candidates will take place, once shortlisting is complete.
Selection Process:
· Depending on the number of applications received, a short-listing of candidates to be called for a Competency based interview (structured interview) may be undertaken based on the Essential Requirements above.
· The successful candidate is expected to commence employment in July 2024.
· It is planned that interviews will be held before the end of June.
· Skills tests will be included in the recruitment process;
· A second interview may be included in the recruitment process; and
· A panel may be set up depending on the calibre of candidates.

Security Clearance for Local Staff:
Police security clearance will be sought in respect of individuals who come under consideration for appointment. Enquiries may also be made with the police force of any country in which the applicant under consideration for appointment resided. If unsuccessful, this information will be destroyed. If the applicant subsequently comes under consideration for another position, they will be required to supply this information again.
